Reproduction of girlish grapes or how to grow a hedge?
Nowadays, the owners of private houses have become increasingly fenced off from their neighbors with huge fences of various shapes. But what if there is no money for a spectacular fence, but you want to fence your property in some elegant way? As an option - a hedge, and the easiest way to implement this plan is with the help of girlish grapes. It is about this plant that will be discussed in the article, in particular about reproduction and how to use it to make a hedge. Reproduction of maiden grapes can be done in several ways at once: cuttings, layering, seeds.
Cuttings
The most suitable time is spring or autumn, regardless of the chosen method. Propagation of girlish grapes by cuttings is the easiest way, because it will not be difficult to get material for it and financial costs. To begin with, you need to prepare small cuttings as thick as a little finger, it can be even thinner, and a little more than 20 cm long, leave several buds on each, preferably no more than five, but it would be good to make sure that the buds are not dry and can develop.
Then we put the cuttings in the ground, for this we need small holes - about ten centimeters, so that two buds remain on the surface, and the rest are in the soil. For the first time after disembarkation, it is recommended to build a small shadow. It is not necessary to use fertilizers when planting, because cuttings are well accepted in almost any soil, but you can water them periodically until you are 100% sure that they have started.
Layers
Reproduction by layering is also a fairly convenient way to increase the number of girls' grape plants at home, because over time, a lot of root processes appear, which will serve as the beginning for new plants. But certain norms must be observed.
In particular, you take a whip of a plant and add it in the place where the buds are. after a while they will begin to take root, in order to accelerate this process, it is necessary to water. It is especially important to ensure that the root collar does not end up underground when digging in. After a time, when the processes take root, they can already be planted wherever you want, just like the cuttings.
Seeds
The most painstaking way of the above is to grow a girl's grape from seeds. It is also recommended to do this in spring or autumn. There are some nuances when sowing seeds in spring. First, the seeds must be subjected to the process of stratification, in other words, hardened.
To do this, they need to be soaked in cold water for a couple of hours, then wrapped in cotton cloth and placed in the refrigerator for several days. When sowing in the fall, it is enough to keep the seeds in water for three days, then they will germinate better. For sowing, a fairly loose soil is needed, the seeds are placed at a depth of about 1 cm.
As already mentioned above, all this requires scrupulousness, a sequence of actions, but it is much easier to propagate girlish grapes in the first two ways.
Benefits of a grape hedge
There are several factors in favor of the maiden grape as a means for making hedges. Already at the end of May, the plant spreads its lush leaves to the full, which do not fade until late autumn, that is, for about six months, a spectacular hedge will delight the eye.
Also, there are no special problems associated with caring for maiden grapes, because it is "of little interest" to most pests, has immunity to diseases, can grow both in the sun and in a darkened area, unpretentious to the soil, the amount of moisture and temperature. Watering should be done only in hot and dry summers, "feeding" is also not necessary, but you can apply a small amount of nitrogen fertilizers once a year.
As an aesthetic addition to the hedge, it can last for a long time - tens of years, because even in "old age" the plant still has enough green leaves to cover a significant area. And it covers this area quickly - its vines can grow up to three to four meters in length in a year. Therefore, the hedge should be formed already in the first year, because if you start the situation, then everything around can be overgrown with this wild plant.
Even a small support is suitable for a girl's grape to start "taking over the world", and here you need to immediately direct it in a direction that suits you and sometimes then correct it. Experienced gardeners recommend doing regular pruning, which will make it much easier for you to control the plant. At the same time, it must be remembered that dried shoots are cut off only in the warm season, because if done in winter, then there can be unpleasant consequences, up to the death of the girl's grapes. After pruning, the plant will spread new shoots with greater force, you also need to be ready for this.
We hope that in this article on the common plant of girlish grapes, you have found useful information for you that will be useful to you when designing the landscape design of your site.
