What is good about Victor grapes?
Experienced gardeners grow several grape varieties at once, sometimes for the sake of sporting interest, that is, simply in order to personally taste, "probe" this or that variety. Sometimes it is nice to surprise relatives or friends by treating them with several different bunches of grapes grown with your own hands. Or make homemade wine using multiple cultures. Some people want something new and they try to contribute to the development of viticulture. Nowadays there are enough grape varieties bred by amateur breeders. These include the Victor grape variety, which became famous gardeners thanks to the amateur breeder V.N.Krainov. (this man managed to breed several more hybrids, the most famous of which are the Transfiguration and the Anniversary of Novocherkassk). When two varieties were crossed - Talisman and Radiant Kishmish - he received Victor grapes, a description of the characteristics of which will be presented in this article.
Description of the variety
The Victor hybrid belongs to the early table varieties, or one might even say, very early. The grapes fully ripen in 100-110 days, that is, at the beginning of August you can already enjoy the taste of ripe fruits. As for the plant, a characteristic feature is the high maturation of the vines, the bushes are vigorous. Bisexual flowers are remarkably pollinated, no troubles were noticed in this regard. It is best to plant with cuttings, they root very well. When pruning a fruitful vine, both short, 3-4 eyes, and long, 8-10 eyes, pruning are used. For one plant, a load of no more than 35 eyes is allowed, for shoots this amount should not exceed 25. Remember that further yield depends on the formation of the bush.
Bunches of Victor grapes can be of different sizes, depending on the care. On average, their weight is 500-750 g, but with very good crop care, you can get clusters weighing 1 kg or even heavier. They are of medium density, there were no cases of pea berries. The berries are in harmony with the size of the bunches - they are also very large, weighing about 15 g each. They are oval or finger-shaped (often with a sharpened tip). The color is different: from light tones (pink, lilac) to dark colors (red, purple) when fully ripe. The pulp is of medium density and has a harmonious taste. The skin is not very thin, but it is not felt at all when eating.
The yield is quite high, and it is stable from year to year - the level is kept at about 6 kg from one bush. Marketability and transportability of fruits are not worse than other varieties. Grapes Victor has established itself as a frost-resistant plant: in the author's description, the ability to withstand frosts at -22 ° C is declared, but a case of successful wintering without shelter was recorded, when the temperature dropped to -24 ° C.
The Victor grape is still a very young grape variety, as it was bred only in the mid-2000s, so the description of its characteristics may not be complete. Most growers just look at it, they test it in various conditions: they try to grow it in warmer / colder regions, determine the most suitable soils, test their resistance to various diseases and pests. If you are not afraid of new things, then you can safely start growing Victor grapes yourself.
