Agrotechnics of the English rose Abraham Derby
Whimsical and capricious roses require time and attention of the gardener. However, compliance with certain agrotechnical measures will help to grow a beautiful rose garden on the territory of the personal plot.
Space, light and soil type requirements
Growing a flower begins with choosing a place. Abraham Derby is afraid of shade, wind and draft. Lack of sunlight is the main reason for the loss of decorativeness by shrubs. The formed buds wither and crumble in an unopened state. Wind and draft also cause foliage and buds to fall off.
A section of the garden well warmed by the sun's rays is suitable for growing an English rose. In this case, it is undesirable to plant a plant in the lowlands. Also try to avoid the close occurrence of groundwater. It is optimal to plant from the south or southwest side of the garden.
Despite its capriciousness, the variety turned out to be undemanding to the soil composition. The culture takes root well on various types of soils. Even sandy soil is suitable for planting, which is pre-diluted with humus. Before planting, the site is dug up and cleared of weeds.
Preparation of seedlings and planting features
Three-year-old seedlings showed high survival rates. It is better to buy planting material in specialized nurseries. The plant should look healthy.
Before planting, the seedlings are cut, leaving several shoots with 4-6 healthy buds. The root of the plant is cleaned from the earth and kept in a solution of "Kornevin", "Heteroauxin" or any other growth biostimulant.
Planting a seedling can be done both in spring and autumn. The size of the planting pit is 2 times the rhizome of the plant. Planting algorithm is standard: drainage layer, nutrient-rich soil, seedling deepening, hilling and watering along the edge of the trunk circle. The root collar is buried 4–6 cm. Below is a diagram of the recommended distances between rows and holes:
The nuances of care
Caring for ornamental shrubs involves timely watering, pruning shoots and proper preparation for wintering.
The variety has an average degree of drought resistance. With a lack of moisture, the roots rise to the surface of the earth, which can cause yellow leaves and shedding of unopened buds. Excess moisture, on the contrary, provokes rotting of rhizomes and shoots. During the growing season, the bush is watered weekly. Average water consumption per plant is 10-12 liters.
Shrub pruning depends on the growing method. For example, a climbing rose is not pruned at all, with the exception of damaged and dry shoots. When forming a beautiful spreading shrub, you need to remove the branches growing inward. Growing on a trunk involves the removal of shoots by 2/3 of the length.
Shrub pruning is carried out in the spring. Places of environments must be treated with garden varnish.
Abraham Derby is afraid of cold and frost. For the winter, the plant is pruned and plentifully spud with a mixture of peat, river sand and dry earth. From above, the shrub is covered with pine spruce branches and agrofibre.
Disease and pest control
One of the disadvantages of the variety is its low resistance to diseases and pests. If the plant begins to wither or turn yellow, the buds do not open or fall off, you need to take emergency measures. How to protect a rose from rust, black spot and powdery rose, see the table below:
The English rose Abraham Derby suffers from spider mites, rose sawfly, rose leafworm, rosemary aphid and thrips. To protect the plant from pests, insecticides "Aktellik", "Aktana", "Iskra" or "Commander" are used.
Variants of the use of the rose Abraham Derby in the landscape
Roses by David Austin are used to decorate personal plots and landscaping city squares. The Abraham Derby variety can be grown on a trunk, as well as in the form of climbing or spreading shrubs. Solitary and composite planting is used. The plant looks interesting near wrought-iron fences, garden columns and arches.
