Flowerbed from the cover: rejected marigolds for decorating the front garden

Rejected marigolds are popular worldwide plants that adorn flower beds and home flower beds. Only three colors are involved in their color - orange, yellow and red, but each variety represents its own unusual combination.

Features of the view

Marigolds have a developed fibrous root system, the stems are erect, usually dark green in color. Leaves can change their appearance depending on the type of plant: whole, cut or dissected. The flowers are usually simple or in the form of a ball with a diameter of 2 to 10 cm.

Varieties

The varieties of marigolds can be conditionally divided into three groups by height: dwarf (20-25 cm), medium-sized (30-40 cm), tall and giant (45-60 cm).

Dwarf

The dwarf version of marigolds was bred by florists not so long ago, but has already gained recognition around the world. Of these, bouquets and flower "carpets" on flower beds are made.

The most popular varieties of dwarf plants:

  1. Baby. They fully justify their name: the rejected marigolds of this variety do not grow higher than 20 cm, and the diameter of the double reed flowers is 5 cm. The series of Malysh varieties is presented in various colors - from yellow to burgundy.
  2. Cherry bracelet. Flowers have a two-tone color, do not fall apart from a long flowering.
  3. Gold head. It immediately stands out from other plants with an unusual contrast: below there are large burgundy petals, and on top there is a dense bright yellow head.
  4. Pink chameleon. These rejected marigolds have an interesting property: flowers of different shades can be found on the same bush. This is due to the fact that as they bloom, they change their color - from yellow to cherry.
  5. Red brocade, or Red Devil - annual marigolds of a blood-scarlet hue.
  6. Bonanza. Compact flowers, growing up to 20 cm in height. In the French market they occupy a leading position, because these plants bloom early, have a large double head and perfectly tolerate various weather conditions.
  7. Rusti ed. Low branchy deflected marigolds of deep cherry color.
  8. Spray petit. Already by the name you can understand that these plants are not tall - up to 25 cm in height. They are drought tolerant chrysanthemum plants.

Medium-sized

Among medium-sized plants, one can distinguish:

  1. Carmen. Usually it does not exceed 30 cm, but sometimes larger specimens are found. This variety easily tolerates transplanting, which is why it can often be found on sale as a flowering plant. Marigolds in the middle are yellow, and towards the edges the color smoothly turns into burgundy.
  2. Queen Sofia. The dense bushes of these marigolds have unusual flowers - red with a yellow border.
  3. Scarlet Sophia. They should not be confused with Queen Sofia, the variety described above. The heads of the marigolds are burgundy with an orange center. Love the little blackout.
  4. Orange flame. Outwardly they resemble chrysanthemums. The bush is very dense, the flowers are bright orange.
  5. Bonita bolero. Despite the small size of the inflorescences, these marigolds look advantageous due to the terry spreading spotted petals, painted in yellow and red shades.
  6. Durango mandarin. These plants belong to the anemone species. They are bred from the rejected, but have a center of tubular flowers, framed by petals. They grow up to 30–35 cm in height and have a bright intense tangerine color.
  7. Red cherry. A compact plant, the bush of which is dotted with red-brown flowers. In the middle there is a yellow tubular inflorescence.
  8. Blonde strawberry. It translates into Russian as Strawberry Blond. In the manner of flowering, these marigolds are similar to the Pink Chameleon variety - over time, the heads change color. This is especially noticeable in cold weather, when the flowers bloom more slowly, and one bush is replete with a mixture of several flowers. However, the inflorescences are small - 2-3 cm in diameter.
  9. Playful Marietta - grows into chic wide bushes 30–40 cm high. The flowers are non-double, flat, two-colored - golden with a red center.

Tall and giants

The prominent representatives of this species are:

  1. Fireball. Also found in the Russian version of the Fireball. In length, this variety can reach 70 cm, which makes such marigolds real giants among other flowers. However, their inflorescences are small - 4–5 cm in diameter. Usually these marigolds are deep red, with a whitish bloom.
  2. Cheerful clown. The plant has a striped yellow-red color and looks beautiful in bouquets.

Growing and care rules

Marigolds are unpretentious plants, which is why their seeds can be planted in early spring.

Before planting, the seeds are soaked in water for 10 minutes, then placed in soil of any quality to a depth of 25–30 mm, at a distance of 50–70 mm from each other. You can plant marigolds in open ground in early spring, with the arrival of heat. Growth will begin in a week.

If you live in a cold region, we recommend sprouting flowers at home or in a greenhouse, and moving them outside only when the ground warms up.

Try to place flower beds with marigolds on the sunny or slightly darkened side, since these plants are sun-loving. It is necessary to water the flowers often and abundantly, however, overflow should not be allowed, otherwise the marigolds will begin to rot.

Once a week, the topsoil must be loosened carefully.

How to use in landscape

Marigolds are great for creating flower beds. Their warm, vibrant colors are often paired with blue or purple plants for great contrast. It is necessary to take into account the size of the plants and select them in height so that the tall ones do not cover the undersized ones.
