Video "Do-it-yourself decorative pots for flowers"
This video presents a step-by-step master class on making a vase from a cement mortar and a cut of fabric.
Technology
Synthetic and blended fabrics do not absorb moisture well and are therefore not suitable for cementing. Any hygroscopic fabric is suitable for making a garden vase from a cement mortar: burlap, terry or waffle towels, any fabric based on natural fibers.
Preparation of the solution
To prepare the solution, you will need ordinary gray cement or white Portland cement of the M-400 or M-500 brand, quarry fine-grained sand and purified water. Sand, pre-sifted and free of debris, is mixed with cement in a 1: 1 ratio. Water should be introduced gradually so that no lumps form in the solution. Using an electric drill and a mixer-attachment, thoroughly mix the mixture. The homogeneous mass should have the consistency of thick sour cream.
There are other options for preparing a solution for making homemade garden vases. Cement (Portland cement) is mixed with open-pit fine-grained sand and gravel with a fraction of not more than 3–7 mm in a ratio of 1: 2: 1. To get a solution that is an imitation of sandstone or tuff, you need to mix cement, sand and peat in a 1: 1: 2 ratio.
Application to fabric
The algorithm for making a flower vase from concrete and cutting fabric for a garden is as follows:
- Prepare the grout.
- Wrap a flower pot, bucket, bowl, or other container in heavy-duty plastic wrap. Turn the container upside down and place it on a hill.
- Saturate the fabric with cement mortar.
- Hang the cloth over the container. Carefully flatten the fabric at the bottom and shape the folds.
- Leave the fabric to dry. After a few days, the flowerpot will be ready for use.
Decor
A gray vase looks dull and dull. You can diversify the design and decorate the flower pot by painting the product with acrylic paints or toning the fabric with a color for concrete.Using silicate glue instead of water when mixing the solution will remove the roughness of the surface.
Additional decor with multi-colored stones, beads, rhinestones or glitter will emphasize the sophistication and originality of the flower vase.
Crafts in the decoupage style look interesting. A garden vase, made of cement mortar and rags, is treated with a primer, on top of which fragments of drawings from napkins are applied. A protective layer to increase the strength and resistance to various damage to the pattern - applying a colorless varnish.
Other options
Some summer residents are skeptical of fabric flowerpots, considering such a composition to be short-lived and impractical. However, instead of a cloth, you can use an old flower pot, a plastic bowl, a metal bucket, a mesh fan cover, and any other container of the original shape. The manufacturing technique does not differ from the one described above. The container is covered with a thick film, coated with a solution of cement, allowed to dry well and decorated.
Flower pots made for summer cottages emphasize the aesthetic appeal of the site, give it originality and sophistication of style. Each vase made of cement mortar and absorbent fabric is unique.
