However, you can get by with any old car wheel, the main thing is that it is not aluminum, but must be made of solid steel. Design advantages and disadvantages

Metal wear does not play a special role. When creating a brazier, the thickness of the brazier's walls is primarily important. The advantage of choosing wheel disks is also their compact shape, the ability to cook on charcoal and wood, and the fact that the material does not burn out or deform when heated.

The most convenient barbecue design from such a basis involves the creation of a multifunctional oven with your own hands, which includes:

  • a grill that allows cooking on skewers or a wire rack;
  • barbecue to grill steaks by covering the roaster with a lid and organizing the oven;
  • cooking surface, since the diameter of the disc is sufficient for placing pans, pots, cauldrons, etc. on the stand;
  • smokehouse, because for giving the possibility of hot smoking is a very useful function.

The device will work according to an understandable principle. The fuel is placed in the lower compartment, and the grill and dishes are placed on top. Removing the grate, we get a barbecue brazier.

True, this design has certain disadvantages:

  1. Low height. When cooking, you have to bend over or sit on a low stool. However, this disadvantage can be avoided by equipping the device with metal legs.
  2. Low thrust due to its small size. If not watched, the fire can simply go out.
  3. Insufficient size of the firebox. You have to put firewood or coals all the time as they burn out.

Assembly technology

To mount the structure, in addition to the disks themselves (two pieces of the same size are required), you will need special tools and additional materials:

  • 3 bolts with nuts;
  • 4 nuts with a diameter of 1 cm;
  • meter-long metal pipe;
  • metal sheet or meter of wire 8 mm thick;
  • Bulgarian;
  • welder.

Installation technology is carried out in several stages:

  1. One of the discs has a baffle completely removed. This is done as follows: notches are made with a grinder, after which they break through the metal with a hammer. Another way is to cut the baffle with a gas cutter.
  2. Both discs are welded together. The partition remaining on the second disk will serve as the bottom of the entire structure.

A door is made for the brazier. To this end:

  • outline a rectangle in such a way that the welding seam connecting the discs passes in the middle, and the lower part lags behind the bottom by several centimeters;
  • cut out a rectangle with a grinder;
  • the edges are sanded, cleaned from burrs;
  • on the right (short) side of the door, two nuts are welded on opposite sides of the weld, and symmetrically;
  • bolts are welded to the barbecue body in such a way as to put the door nuts on them (you should first screw the bolts into the welded nuts, then attach the door to the body and in this position weld the bolts themselves);
  • on the opposite side of the door in the middle of the seam, make a hole and screw in a bolt, securing it with a nut - you get a kind of handle.

Now you need to weld a metal sheet to the bottom, otherwise the coals will fall out of the furnace. There should be holes in the sheet to increase traction. Instead of a sheet, a lattice is sometimes mounted, having built it from a thick wire.

The next step is to weld on the legs. Three blanks of 80–90 cm are cut from a profile pipe, which are welded in the form of a tripod to the bottom of an inverted barbecue.

Attaching the legs to a portable structure

To make the structure easy to move, it is equipped with handles. To do this, on both sides at the desired height, attach by welding a pair of nuts through which a curved wire is threaded.

The device is ready. For its beauty it is desirable:

  • ignite on fire;
  • paint with heat-resistant black paint.

Other oven options

To get a smokehouse, the brazier is equipped with a lid and a smoke evacuation system. The previously cut partition with holes is not thrown away, it is just easy to make a lid from it, moreover, it will begin to function as a hob.

There are also simpler barbecue options. For example, you can build a simple grill from only one disc, providing it with legs.

The owners of summer cottages decide for themselves which equipment suits them best. A minimum of labor and funds will allow you to acquire a useful device on the farm.
