How to paint a brazier to prolong his life
Content
What should be the paint
Furnace equipment for cooking is made of metal. This entails destruction under the influence of precipitation and large temperature fluctuations. Preservation of the metal structure of the barbecue from corrosion is the main requirement for painting materials.
In addition, it is important that the paints used do not emit harmful toxic substances when metal surfaces are heated to 700–800 ° C. Heat-resistant mixtures should be easy to apply, since painting is performed not only outside, but also inside. The refractory properties of the applied paints must preserve the integrity of the applied layer, and protect so that the brazier does not burn.

This video presents a detailed master class on painting a barbecue structure with heat-resistant paint.
Varieties of compositions
Dyes with refractory properties are divided into the following types:
- Organosilicon mixtures. Heat resistance limit at around 500-600 degrees. This coating creates a durable surface layer that is resistant to aggressive environments. In the process of application, it emits a pungent odor. This mixture is used to paint the exterior surfaces.
- Acrylic based dyes. Contact well with metal surfaces to create a hard, durable coating that can withstand temperatures up to 900 ° C. Aerosol packaging in cans contributes to the convenient use of the mixture when painting internal and external surfaces.
- Dry powder dyes are used in industrial painting. The silicone mixture coats the metal surface tightly. Reliably protects against corrosion and gives an excellent appearance. The complexity of the technological process of painting and drying requires painting products on special equipment.
Top manufacturers
Among the large number of manufacturers of paints and varnishes are:
- Thermika KO-811. It is made on a silicon base, it is able to protect against corrosion. Heat resistance temperature - 600 ° C.
- Hammerayt. The peculiarity of the mixture is the ability to apply to rust. Heat resistance - 600 ° C.
- "Certa". Russian dye has a wide range of colors. Resistance temperature - 900 ° C.
- Bosni Hi-temp. Silicon dye with a hardness temperature of 650 ° C.
- "Kudo". Russian-made paint, made on the basis of silicon. Heat resistance - 600 ° C. Available in 20 colors.
- Thermal. A modern colorant created using silicone components. This paint is able to withstand high temperatures - up to 1000 ° C. In the process of painting, personal protective equipment is used. Creates a durable hard coating.
- Elkon. Russian-made paint. Heat resistance - 700 ° C. Packaging in cans or aerosols.
Given the availability and wishes, you can opt for one of the proposed brands.
Application rules
There is no need for special skills to paint the product. But a clear order of work must be followed, which will allow the applied layer to protect the surface of the barbecue from external influences for 2-3 years:
- Before painting, you need to clean the surface of the case and uprights from rust and dirt. To do this, use metal brushes and an emery cloth.
- Degrease the structure with a solvent or white spirit.
- Stir the paint thoroughly. When using aerosols, shake well.
- The barbecue is painted in dry, calm weather outdoors or indoors, at a temperature of 18-30 ° C. When carrying out work, it is important to observe safety precautions. If the dyes used have a strong odor, you need to use a respirator.
- It is necessary to paint in several layers. Each subsequent one is applied after the previous one has dried. Two layers for the barbecue are not enough. Therefore, three or more layers are applied.
Alternative to painting
The method of protection against corrosion using paint is, of course, good, but the layer of dye wears off and collapses over time. Bluing will be a more reliable way of covering the barbecue. This is a chemical surface treatment using special compounds. To carry out such work, it is necessary to have three technical containers that can heat up to 150 ° C, as well as chemicals. The bluing process is carried out as follows:
- Cleans surfaces from dirt and rust.
- It is necessary to immerse the disassembled brazier in a 5% sulfuric acid solution for 5 minutes.
- Then take out all the parts and put them in a boiling bath with a 5% soap solution. Leave for 10 minutes.
- Heat the last container with a 5% sodium hydroxide solution to 140 ° C and boil all the components for 1.5 hours.
- Remove all parts and rinse thoroughly.
With a non-separable design or the absence of containers, these works are performed in special workshops of industrial enterprises.
Protecting the barbecue from corrosion by painting will protect it for 2-3 years. To constantly maintain the barbecue equipment in good condition, the surfaces need to be periodically painted or blued, which will close this issue forever.
