Types of structures
The first step is to decide on the type of structure that the vine will braid. There are several basic types of structures that are not difficult to make without outside help. Now we will tell the vineyard owners in more detail what these structures are, and what are their advantages:
- Arched. These types of gazebos are very common. They are not difficult to make, and they perfectly serve as a frame. This design creates a sufficient amount of shade, so the owner of the site and his guests can take a break from the scorching sun. In addition, the vines are constantly exposed to the sun and receive the required amount of solar energy. The only drawback: if you want to get a real arch, you will have to purchase an arched structure, which is quite expensive. But you can try to make an arch with your own hands.
- Domed. This option will be an excellent design solution. Such a gazebo resembles a fairytale house, braided with grape vines. You can choose the size and dimensions that suit you, making it miniature or huge so that you can invite guests on a hot summer day. Design advantages: the plants receive enough sunlight, and the structure will decorate the suburban area.
- Pergola. This is a special shed for growing grapes. It can be made in the form of an arch or an extension to the house. In the latter case, the pergola will be something like a visor, which creates a shadow and performs a decorative function.
- Free form. If you do not want to use the already familiar options, you can connect your imagination and build a gazebo at your discretion. Just make a solid frame, calculate the area correctly, and take into account the peculiarities of the grapes that will grow on such a gazebo.
When choosing the type of construction, you can be guided by personal preference or bring in a landscape designer who will share useful tips.

Arch
The most expensive and complex construction, which, however, will be an excellent design solution:
- To get started, you need a frame made of rods, which must be made of metal.
- Dig holes in which you will anchor the rods. Gravel, concrete or broken brick (at your discretion) is laid at the bottom of each such lenk.
- After that, rods are inserted into the holes, and from above they are poured with cement.
- To make the arch strong, you can additionally mount several transverse rods and weld them.
- The horizontal brackets can be secured with wire.
You can also use ready-made arched structures from a profile pipe, if you do not want to make them with your own hands.
Dome
This gazebo will make your summer cottage a fabulous place. In this small green house you can hide from the summer heat:
- First, the marking of the terrain is done, holes are dug, where the supports are placed. For supports, pipes or wooden beams are used. Don't forget to enter your gazebo.
- Mount the base for the roof on top. One end of the rods should be attached to this frame, and the other end of all rods will end at one point, forming a dome.
- Then proceed to the formation of a green gazebo. Young vines are planted on the sides of the entrance and guided in a circle.
- Do not forget to tie them up and remove unnecessary elements in time to make a green shelter.
Tapestries with a canopy
A budget solution that will help to decorate the site:
- First, holes are dug into which the supports are lowered.
- From above, concrete is poured into the holes for strength.
- Vertical and horizontal rods are pulled between the supports, so that later they can be tightened with grape vines.
- The roof is a continuous covering so that it can protect the structure from rain.
- It is better not to make the structure too high, otherwise it will be difficult to care for the plants later.
Extension to the house
A very convenient option, since one of the walls will be the wall of the house. You just have to build frames on the sides and a kind of roof:
- Dig holes and install supports in them.
- After that, fill the holes with cement.
- Do not forget about the roof slope, so that you can stay in the gazebo even in bad weather.
- To form the vines correctly, and to make the plants feel comfortable, the gazebo is placed in the sun, not in the shade.
Features of plant selection
Of course, not every grape variety can be used to build a gazebo. You will need varieties of grapes that do not need shelter for the winter. This will allow them to grow and thrive normally. By removing the grapes from the trellises, you risk damaging them or preventing them from growing normally in the next season. Therefore, only use uncovered grapes.
It is best to use young grapes. Mature grapes are much more difficult to shape to grow properly. But you plant the young one at the foot of the gazebo and immediately shape it at your discretion, directing it as you need it.
A variety called Maiden Grapes is best suited for planting. This is an ornamental variety that in summer will delight you with emerald leaves on reddish shoots. And with the arrival of autumn, its foliage will change color to crimson or even purple, without losing its decorative qualities at all. In addition, Maiden Grapes are edible, which will be a great bonus for you.
