What is spottykach and how is it different from liqueur
Spotykach is a Ukrainian drink that appeared in the 18th century. In those days, women were mainly involved in the preparation of the drink, therefore the spotykach was called "ladies'". Its name is associated with the effect it produces on the drinker: the legs become heavy and "do not obey" the owner. Moreover, intoxication is manifested exclusively in the coordination of movements, and the mind and speech of a person remain the same.
The fortress of the spotkach is at least 20-25 degrees. The drink contains about 25% sugar, so it can be called the "golden mean" between liqueur and liqueur. A drink is made based on dried fruits, berries, spices and herbs.
The main difference between spotykach and homemade liqueurs and liqueurs is the heat treatment, which the drink lends itself to during preparation. By the way, not only berries and dried fruits are thermally processed, but also alcohol itself - moonshine or vodka, as well as sugar syrup. While the liqueur is not boiled, but only infused.
In order for the spotter to turn out really tasty, you need to follow some recommendations:
- Selection of berries and fruits. The raw materials on the basis of which the drink is prepared must be of high quality. Berries and fruits should not have traces of rot, mold, dents.
- Alcohol. Often, spotykach is prepared with the addition of vodka, but moonshine is often used as an alcoholic base. In this situation, it is very important to use only a well-purified product. Otherwise, the drink will have an unpleasant smell and taste.
- Granulated sugar. Following the original recipe, quite a lot of sugar is added to the mass. However, if the end result is not entirely satisfactory, the dose of granulated sugar can be reduced depending on your own preferences.

Recipes
Spotykach is a drink of the Slavs who lived mainly on the territory of Ukraine. However, even today it is quite common. It is often prepared at home, updating well-known recipes with new ingredients.
Rowan
Required Ingredients:
- mountain ash - 1 kg;
- vodka - 750 ml;
- sugar - 1.2 kg;
- water - 0.5 l.
Rowan must be washed, dried and crushed to a puree state. Make sugar syrup. Ready syrup and rowan juice must be combined with alcohol, put on low heat, stirring the mass continuously. As soon as it has thickened, the rowan stump is removed from the stove, cooled and distributed over the prepared containers.
There is a version that the modern recipe based on mountain ash is identical to the Varangian one.
Citric
For cooking you will need:
- lemons - 5 pcs.;
- vodka - 700 ml;
- sugar - 400 g;
- water - 250 ml;
- favorite spices - 1 tsp.
First, pour the lemons with boiling water, peel the peel, chop the pulp. Prepare sugar syrup, send sliced lemon, a little zest, spices there. The mass is boiled for 10 minutes.The syrup is removed from the stove and poured over with alcohol. After cooling, the drink should be infused for a week.
Acacia with alcohol
You should prepare:
- acacia flowers - 100 g;
- vodka - 700 ml;
- water - 2 glasses;

Anisic

- orange peel - 10 g;
- spices - 1 g each
Anise seeds need to be lightly grinded and covered with alcohol. The resulting mass is insisted for 2-3 days. Prepare the syrup and pour it over the anise tincture, add spices and pour the drink into a bottle. Shake the container daily. The drink will be ready to drink after a week.
From young walnuts
For cooking you will need:
- young nuts - 0.5 kg;
- vodka - 1 l;
- fruit pits - 20 pcs.;
- granulated sugar - 400 g;
- vanillin and spices to taste.
The nuts must be chopped, filled with vodka and placed in a sunny place. You need to insist for about a month. Drain the vodka, add granulated sugar, fruit seeds and spices to it. The mass is insisted for another 7 days, shaking daily.
Plum on vodka
You should prepare:
- plums - 2 kg;
- vodka - 1.5 l;
- granulated sugar - 800 g;
- water - 1 l.
Rinse the plums, add water and sugar and cook until the fruits soften. Add vodka, do not bring to a boil. The composition must be cooled, sent to a container, add fruits and leave for 10 days. Squeeze the plums lightly through cheesecloth, filter the drink and combine with fruit juice. Pour into jars.
Currant
Required Ingredients:
- currants - 1 kg;
- water - 0.5 l;
- vodka or moonshine - 0.8 l;
- sugar - 600 g
The currants should be sorted out, washed, crushed, candied. Send in boiling water for 5 minutes. Add alcohol and boil over low heat for 20 minutes. Cool and strain the composition. Insist for 14 days in a dry place.
Cherry
You need to stock up on the following ingredients:
- cherry - 300 g;
- vodka - 0.5 l;
- prunes - 50 g;
- granulated sugar - 300 g.
Sugar cherries, insist overnight. Put the fruits on the fire, boil for 2-3 minutes. Add chopped prunes. Cool the mass, add alcohol, leave for 2 weeks. Strain the drink and distribute to containers.
Mint
To prepare a drink you will need:
- mint - 100 g;
- moonshine - 1 l;
- granulated sugar - 2 cups;
- water - 2 glasses;
- orange peel, spices - to taste.
Prepare sugar syrup, add washed mint leaves, spices. Boil for 20 minutes, combine with moonshine and cool. Infuse the drink for 5-7 days.
From prunes
You need to prepare:
- prunes - 400 g;
- granulated sugar - 400 g;
- vodka - 500 ml;
- water - 300 ml.
Prunes need to be washed, sent to pre-cooked and cooled syrup. Add alcohol, leave for about 2-3 days. Filter before use.
Crimson
You will need the following ingredients:
- raspberries - 1 kg;
- sugar - 1 kg;
- water - 900 ml;
- vanillin - to taste;
- alcohol - 750 ml.
Wash raspberries, crush, send to boiling sugar syrup. Boil the mixture for about 2 minutes and remove from the stove. Add vodka with vanilla, boil without boiling. Distribute in containers.
Apricot
For cooking you will need:
- apricot - 1 kg;
- moonshine - 0.75 l;
- granulated sugar - 400 g;
- water - 0.5 l.
Wash the apricot, separate from the stone and boil until softened. Remove from heat, add alcohol and leave for a week. After this time, strain the mass and distribute in containers.
Coffee
You should stock up on the following ingredients:
- coffee - 150 g;
- water - 1 l;
- vodka - 0.5 l;
- sugar - 0.5 kg.
Pour freshly ground coffee with water and leave for 24 hours. Filter the water and cook for 20 minutes over low heat. Cool, filter again, add sugar, boil for another 5 minutes. Add alcohol and send it back to the stove for 2 minutes. Cool and pour into containers.
Cranberry
You will need:
- cranberries - 1 kg;
- water - 3.5 cups;
- sugar - 1 kg;
- vodka - 750 g;
- vanilla - 2-3 sticks.
The cranberries must be sorted out, washed under running water and crushed with a wooden crush. Send cranberry juice to boiling syrup, boil for another 5 minutes and remove from heat. Add vodka, boil without boiling.

- nutmeg - 20 g.
Pour moonshine and spices into a glass container. It is necessary to infuse the mass for 14 days in a dark and dry place. At the same time, it is important to gently shake the jar every day so that all the components are mixed. Add sugar to the composition, heat slightly over low heat and strain.
With orange peel
To prepare a drink you will need:
- moonshine - 1.5 liters;
- sugar - 2 kg;
- water - 3 l;
- orange peel - 10 g;
- cloves, cinnamon - to taste.

- granulated sugar - 300 g;
- moonshine or vodka - 3 glasses;
- water - 2 glasses.
